What does The Oregon Trail, Minecraft, and Dead Space have in common? Survival. Well, sometime in the near future, prepare to add Ubisoft Shanghai’s upcoming title “I Am Alive” to the list.
Set in Chicago after a 10.3 Mw earthquake destroys the city and seperates it from the mainland, I Am Alive thrusts you into the shoes of everyman Adam Collins (who could be voiced by Elias Toufexis aka Adam Jensen in Deus Ex Human Revolution) as he tries to survive in the city and rescue his girlfriend in the aftermath of the quake. Not only do players have to worry about hunger, dehydration, and the crumbling city around them but also the survivors of the quake who will do anything, including killing you for supplies, to survive.
The player can control Adam either through a first or third person perspective, threaten enemies with an empty gun or just kill them with live weapons such as pistols, machine guns, grenades and other weapons they find, and drive abandoned vehicles in a third person perspective. Adam can also rescue any sane survivors he finds and bring them to a refugee camp set up in the city.
It is unknown when I Am Alive is to be released (supposedly sometime late 2011) but when it is, it’s supposed to come out on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and the Wii. Now, I Am Alive has been delayed a few times and switched developers from Darkworks to Ubisoft Shanghai and is coming out on so many systems that it has me a tad worried. However, if everything comes together right, then I Am Alive could prove to be one of the most exciting survival games to come out in a long time.
